BV2 - Introduktion
Why BV²

BV² focuses on the building's ventilation and heating systems, which in most cases are the most sensitive input when simulating modern buildings. The most common among simulation programs is that they focus on the building envelope, which requires a lot of detailed knowledge, and where the details in most cases have less impact on energy use.

BV² is fast due to a very advanced calculation engine. With the help of advanced algorithms, the calculation has been able to be made very efficient and fast. A year simulation taking into account the dynamic effects of a building takes about 1 second.

The level of input in BV² is selected so that it should be simple but still so detailed that most cases can be simulated. The usually biggest problem when simulating energy use of buildings is the lack of knowledge about detailed values for the building. Our goal with BV² is to, without compromising on the requirement for reliable results, be able to limit the number of details in the input and thus simplify for the user. In programs with a complicated input structure, an incorrect value on a detail can cause major errors without being detected.

BV² has a built-in function that automatically selects the most profitable measures for energy-saving projects. This routine also takes into account how the different measures affect each other. To be able to do this, each year simulation must be short since the number of runs with different combinations of measures increases significantly with the number of proposed measures.

In the development of BV², we have worked according to these four keywords
  • Simple
  • Fast
  • Reliable
  • Usability in all types of buildings

A good energy calculation program should meet these four points to function in practical contexts. Below you get a short introduction to BV².

You learn BV² easily
Learning to use BV² only takes a few hours. Practical applications take even less time, which means that you can start working with the program immediately without necessarily having to read the manual or attend a course. BV² is practically usable and self-instructing, which reduces the risk of error.

...and it's easy to use
Entering data is what takes the most time in energy calculation. Therefore, we have intentionally made it possible to start with relatively few data, which makes BV² particularly suitable in situations where it can be difficult to obtain a lot of detailed information about a building, e.g. during remodeling or an early stage of new construction.

You can use BV² at all stages of a building's lifetime
BV² can be easily used throughout a building's entire life, from early system stage, during detailed design and up to and including the management stage. This is possible precisely because the amount of data can be changed, from relatively simple to more complex, as the building takes shape and detailed design continues. Thus, BV² can be advantageously used for both new construction and remodeling. In very early stages of the building process, BV²Arch can be used advantageously.

...and you can handle all types of buildings
BV² has the capability to handle all types of buildings. There are several different climate control systems and heat production units to choose from with great possibilities for adaptations. In combination with the possibility of graphical input for the building itself and data for complex internal operations, there are few buildings that BV² cannot handle.

You get clear and fast results
Indoor temperature as well as heating and cooling needs are presented both in tables, bar charts, and in duration diagrams. Results are updated immediately after input. Heat, electricity, and cooling are reported separately, which increases clarity. Also, costs and profitability for different options are reported very clearly and simply.

...and the results are reliable

The calculation model in BV² is based on results from a doctoral thesis at Chalmers University of Technology. BV² is also tested against an internationally recognized calculation program, DOE-2, with very good correspondence. BV² has also been compared with a number of real buildings with very good correspondence.

BV² is continuously adapted to new norms and regulations

The program meets all the requirements set for calculation programs in the energy directive on energy certification of buildings. BV² can of course report energy use and requirements according to BBR.
